Dr. Brett Underwood, DC, DACBSP & Dr. Gabriela Underwood, DAc., LAc., DACM, are a husband and wife team whose goal is to provide the highest quality healthcare for patients of all abilities and ages! They believe that strengthening, conditioning, moving well and often, and living a physically active lifestyle are essential keys to good health and well-being at every stage of life. They have worked diligently to earn the education, skills, and experience necessary to provide the highest levels of professional health-care for their patients.  Dr. Brett & Dr. Gabriela love working with people from many different backgrounds and both are fluent in Spanish.

Dr. Brett has focused his professional education & training on excellence in Chiropractic Treatment & Chiropractic Sports Medicine.

He completed his B.A. degree & pre-professional course-work at Brigham Young University, and went on to earn his four year Doctor of Chiropractic degree, magna cum laude, from Southern California University of Health Sciences (SCU). A firm believer in continuing education, Dr. Brett went on to successfully complete a 2 year, full-time post-doctoral Sports Medicine Residency in the SCU Sports Medicine Department. He also spent hundreds of hours teaching Chiropractic Sports Medicine curriculum and mentoring interns as Adjunct Faculty in the Sports Medicine Department at SCU.

Dr. Brett is a Diplomate of the American Chiropractic Board of Sports Physicians®. He is also an Internationally Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician, a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist®, and a Certified Running Coach (RRCA). Dr. Brett is full-body certified in Active Release Technique®.  He has also earned certifications in many other sports-related techniques.

As a Sports Medicine Resident at SCU, Dr. Brett spent hundreds of hours providing Chiropractic Sports Medicine care for many different athletes, clinics and sporting events. He worked with teams ranging from high-school to professional athletes, including: NFL, NBA, FIVP, AVP, USA Track & Field, USA Field Hockey, Triathlons, the AIDS LifeCycle Ride, Marathons, USA Water Polo, Belmont Shores Rugby, Chikara Weightlifting, and Shoe City Paralympics.

He is an official Doctor of Chiropractic Sports Medicine for A Snail’s Pace Running Academy, Brea location, in his association with FORMA.

Dr. Underwood completed many professional rotations during his residency and gained invaluable experience and education working in multi-disciplinary practices with MD's, DO's, Sport DC's, DPT's, Sports Acupuncturists, ATC's, LMT's, etc.

Dr. Brett is fluent in Spanish and a native of Southern California. He and his sweetheart, Gaby, love their growing family, daughters, sons, and grandchildren. Dr. Brett and Gaby enjoy being outdoors and are avid runners. They have completed numerous running events including marathons, and also enjoy weightlifting, biking, hiking and other forms of exercise. Dr. Brett is also an Eagle Scout, and loves being in nature.

He believes that strengthening, conditioning, and living a physically active lifestyle are essential lifelong keys to good health and quality of life.

Dr. Gabriela Underwood DAc., LAc.

DACM, MAOM | Licensed Doctor of Acupuncture


Dr. Gabriela is a doctor of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine (DACM) with a strong emphasis in sports performance and injuries, women’s health, and metabolic health.

During the course of her professional career and training, she has treated an extensive range of conditions including: sports injuries, neuromusculoskeletal pain, symptoms associated with chronic illnesses, hormonal imbalances, stress, anxiety, depression, digestive issues, insomnia, fatigue, headaches, pregnancy related symptoms, allergies, and arthritis. She has also received advanced training and instruction at the Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Taipei, Taiwan.

Dr. Gabriela has completed extensive post-professional training and concurrently treated patients at East West Medical Group under her prestigious mentor Dr. Stephen Tsai. 

A former faculty member at Southern California University of Healthy Sciences (SCU), Gabriela was an instructor in the Massage Therapy Program. She is also a licensed massage therapist specializing in sports muscle therapy, and is certified in Deep Muscle Realignment for Triathletes, and Therapeutic Reposturing.  

Dr. Gabriela has a special interest in sports injuries and injury prevention and is a strong proponent for exercise, strengthening and conditioning. She is a Certified Running Coach (RRCA), and has been the strength and conditioning coach for A Snail's Pace Running Academy in Brea, also teaching a Strength & Conditioning class for runners to improve their performance and prevent injuries through proper biomechanics, strength training and stretching/mobility protocols.

During the course of her professional education at SCU, Dr. Gabriela founded the Sports Medicine Acupuncture Club and worked closely with the Chiropractic Sports Medicine department, providing care at a variety of sporting events for all levels of athletes. She has been part of the medical provider team for 5k & 10k running events, Half & Full Marathons, Wildflower Triathlon, professional FIVB Beach Volleyball, USA Field Hockey, and USA Track & Field.

Gabriela is certified in the Mai Zen Cosmetic Acupuncture protocols for anti-aging and weight-loss management and has a strong interest in the cosmetic benefits of acupuncture and TCM.  

A native of Mexico, Dr. Gabriela is fluent in English and Spanish. She really enjoys all types of fitness, and being outdoors with her family. Dr. Gaby is an avid runner and has completed numerous running events.
